A candidate is a small number in solve mode in Sudoku Snake.
There may be many candidates in a cell, but only one can be true. Candidates are filled in while solving a puzzle to help narrow down the options until you can deduce the correct value for each cell.
Candidates are different from possibilities (which are used in design mode) in that any possibility in a cell can be true, while only one candidate can be true.
